Amduscias’ New Follower

Amduscias’ New Follower by luvataciousskull on DeviantArt

Amduscias is a demon and a powerful Grand Duke of hell with 29 Legions to his name and is the demon most connected to music with Goetia’s attributing him to bending music to his will.

His new follower has a bit of the same power.

On her right arm are the symbols for Cinder, Penetrate, and then the Sigil of Amduscias, followed by the words “Ave Satanas” on her wrist. On her left arm are the words “Music is Life”, the symbol for Sulfur, and the Sigil of Lucifer.

Her shirt says “In Nomine Dei Nostri Satanas”, a shorter version of the Latin Phrase “In nomine Dei nostri Satanas Luciferi Excelsi” (In the name of our God, Satan Lucifer of the Most High). On her stomach is “For thi is the glory.” Both are references to “Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer” by Behemoth. “Thi” is a bit of a play on words: The actual words are “For thine is the glory.” Since it leads to her thigh, I think you get the rest.

Dancing Ferret – 20th Anniversary Poster

Dancing Ferret - 20th Anniversary Poster

Dancing Ferret is having a big 20th Anniversary show at The Trocadero, and I was tapped to do the artwork for the event. It was flattering to get to do the piece, and I had a good time doing it. It was a pretty interesting request: Draw a ferret looking rather dapper with two hot goth girls with him. Sounds good to me!

The show features Covenant, Ego Likeness, Carfax Abbey, The Labrynth, The Wandering Cellist, Samantha Diaz. Guest vocalists Rodney Anonymous (The Dead Milkmen), Stacey Campbell (Spider Lillies), Andy Deane (Bella Morte), Jeff Diehm (The Last Dance), Alex Reed (ThouShaltNot) will all be making appearances, too!

Creative 365: Best of December

The Creative 365 project is me doing everything I can to do something amazing and creative every single day for a year! Every month, I plan on posting the best pieces from it for you here!

Of all the months in this project, December was the hardest. I was working on a bunch of different commissions at the start of the month, along with a full-time job, and that left little time to do something for myself or to just relax. Even after all the digital illustrations, it was tough for me to sit-down and start illustrating again at my desk. By Christmas Eve I had built my new desk, which really inspired me to draw like crazy!

November saw a lot of drawing on a tablet since I was trying to expand my skills in digital-only illustration. Other than that, I had a few designs and went on a trip.

Ah, October! A month of horror and terror, and ripe for inspiration for pieces based on darkness and evil! The focus here was on Graphic Design above all else, and I started experimenting a bit with layouts. And with the government shutdown in full effect, a lot of the designs wound up being fairly political. On a whole, it was a fun month!

August wound up being a very odd month. While still doing what I could creatively, the month wound up leading to a rush for my art show, which I needed to get together in only 2 weeks!

My Modern Propaganda Posters

I love doing Propaganda posters. In the past few years, I’ve done some from faux-propaganda to real posters for real events to help gain support for a cause.

The one thing that I usually do is go for a more “classic” look, with a focus on Art-Deco, Constructionism, and Art-Nouveau styles. This time, I decided to just go a completely different route and focus on more modern design techniques. There wasn’t a set agenda; I just wanted to do something different. If something came to mind, I would do a poster on it.

I wound up doing one based on my feelings about how marketers treat and use modern social networking and treat it, and in the turn the people who use it, as a commodity. Another one made fun of the “going green” movement, another on how the Great Recession is only over for the rich, and finally I did one during Rand Paul’s Filibuster.

This month was a rough one. I wound up going through a few things, and near the end I was able to start coming up with some amazing illustrations!

Wednesday 13 – Curse The Living T-Shirt

Wednesday 13 - Curse The Living T-Shirt

Sometimes, dreams DO come true.

Back in October of 2011, I saw Wednesday 13 was going to play The Troc here in Philadelphia, and I decided to take the initiative to do a gig poster for the show. The show was packed and I had one hell of a good time! Wednesday 13 saw the piece and I wound up printing him out a copy with my contact info.

Fast forward to December of 2012.

I got a message from his management and, long story short, I got commissioned to do a shirt for him! He had a specific idea, and even sent me an original sketch of what layout he wanted. I kept my art incredibly true to it, and I’m glad to hear that he liked the piece, too!

The design is based on Vincent Price’s character Matthew Hopkins in the 1968 film “Witchfinder General”. I actually never got to hear the song, “Curse The Living”, before I drew it, and I’m still dying to get my hands on the new album “The Dixie Dead” so I can. That said, I wound up listening to all his solo work while working on it.

In the end, I’m incredibly proud of this shirt and I had a great time doing it! This was a dream come true, and hopefully I’ll get to work for more people I look up to and admire!

The shirt is being sold on his 2013 West Coast tour, and hopefully will be available for a long, long, long time!

The Department of Trepidation

The Department of Trepidation - Logo

Back in June, I had an idea to help get people interested in the world around them: The Department of Trepidation!

The concept was simple: Create a series of posters based on current events to get people talking. The result was a lot of people discussing the topics I brought up, including “flash robs”, soda bans, schools, “Stop and Frisk”, invasion of privacy, oil companies, and the feeling of day-to-day life drudgery.

I also gave away all of the posters for FREE so people could download them, print them out, and do whatever they wanted with them.

Below are just a few of the posters. Each one links to the one on Deviant Art, but you can always download the PDF’s on the original The Department of Trepidation site.
